Durham Blues Receives The Next Play Grant

The Durham Blues Basketball Club is proud to announce that we have received Canadian Women & Sport’s The Next Play Grant.

This grant supports initiatives that remove barriers and create more opportunities for girls, women, and gender-diverse participants in sport. For the Durham Blues, this funding represents an important investment in the future of our girls basketball programs and will help make the game more accessible to families throughout Durham Region.

Funded by the Government of Ontario, The Next Play Grant helps community sport organizations build more inclusive, welcoming, and equitable programs that encourage girls and gender-diverse youth from all backgrounds to participate and stay involved in sport.

At the Durham Blues, we believe every young athlete deserves the opportunity to experience the benefits of basketball. The game teaches confidence, teamwork, leadership, resilience, and lifelong friendships. Financial barriers should never prevent a player from discovering those opportunities or becoming part of our Village.

This funding will help us continue expanding pathways for girls basketball, from introductory programs for beginners through to competitive rep opportunities. It also strengthens our commitment to creating an environment where girls feel supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential both on and off the court.

We are incredibly grateful to Canadian Women & Sport and the Government of Ontario for recognizing the importance of community basketball and investing in programs that make a real difference. Their support will help us welcome more girls into the game and continue building a stronger, more inclusive basketball community across Durham Region.

We are excited to put this grant into action and create even more opportunities for girls to learn, play, compete, and become part of the Durham Blues family.
